The total seizures in Maharashtra and Jharkhand, valued at Rs 858 crore, were nearly seven times the total seizures made during the 2019 assembly elections, according to information released by the Election Commission on Monday.

Jharkhand had seizures of Rs 198 crore, up from Rs 18.8 crore in 2019, while Maharashtra recorded seizures totaling over Rs 660 crore this time around, compared to Rs 103.6 crore in the most recent round of elections.
Metals were the most valuable item seized in Maharashtra, with a total value of Rs 282.5 crore, followed by illicit currency, which was valued Rs 153.5 crore. Freebies accounted for nearly 80% of Jharkhand’s total seizures, which totaled Rs 198 crore. These were the largest poll inducements in terms of value. Record seizures also occurred in Jharkhand, where the emphasis was on stopping illegal mining operations. As a result, illegal mining equipment and materials were seized. In Sahibganj area, illicit mining materials valued at Rs 2.3 crore were discovered in a single occurrence. 48.18 kg of marijuana and 687 kg of poppy straw were found in Hazaribagh and Daltonganj, respectively.
