Day 3 Box Office Collection for The Sabarmati Report: Vikrant Massey’s Film Sees An Uptrend
Mumbai: Based on the 2002 Sabarmati Express burning tragedy in Godhra,
Gujarat, The Sabarmati Report is still doing well at the box office. Vikrant Massey plays the lead in the Dheeraj Sarna-directed movie. Sacnilk claims that although the movie enjoyed a respectable first weekend at the domestic box office, its receipts are still less than those of Vikrant’s sleeper smash from the previous year, 12th Fail.
The Sabarmati Report made Rs 3 crore on Day 3, which was a slight rise over its Rs 2.1 crore revenues on Saturday. Its first day’s earnings of Rs 1.25 crore showed a steady increase over the weekend. Remarkably, The Sabarmati Report had Vikrant’s best opening ever, opening better than Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s 2023 blockbuster 12th Fail. On the other hand, 12th Fail’s weekend collecting gain was more noticeable on both Saturday and Sunday. By contrast, on Day 3, 12th Fail made Rs 3.12 crore, little more than The Sabarmati Report. Consequently, The Sabarmati Report’s opening weekend total of Rs 6.35 crore was less than 12th Fail’s Rs 6.74 crore.

Only the Tamil action fantasy Kanguva, which starred Suriya and Ridley Scott’s Hollywood epic Gladiator II, could compete with The Sabarmati Report, the only significant Bollywood release last week.
Relatedly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi replied on X (previously Twitter) to a user who tagged him with a video of the trailer and gave the film high marks. “Very well said,” he wrote. The fact that this reality is being revealed in a form that the general public can understand is a good thing. There is a limit to how long a false story can last. The truth will always surface in due time.
The terrible burning of the Sabarmati Express’s S-6 coach outside Godhra station on February 27, 2002, which claimed the lives of at least 59 pilgrims returning from Ayodhya, is dramatized in the movie. In Gujarat, the incident led to widespread rioting. Gujarat’s chief minister at the time was Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Raashii Khanna and Ridhi Dogra play important parts in the movie as well.
